I have been toying with gas as an alternative to Esbit and solid fuel tablets. Gas is cleaner and hotter than meths, and if the jet is adjusted correctly, there are no sooty deposits left on the boiler. I bought the set below from Forrest Classics and I must say, I'm really impressed.

One thing that has to be taken into account is that with the extra heat, boilers tend to burn dry quicker. A close eye must be kept on the sight glass to make sure that does not happen.

The set below consists of the gas tank, ceramic burner, copper pipe and fittings, gas jet and an adaptor for refilling from a lighter fuel gas can. An adaptor can be purchased to refill from a propane butane mix can usually used for blowtorches, and much preferred.
